Breckenridge 100
July 19, 2008 Kimo's 40th birthday and the start of the Breckenridge 100. This was the 4th year of the Breck 100 and the first time that Kimo and I had entered. The race is 3 separate loops with over 12,000 feet of elevation gain, tons of single track, some fire road, and some pavement. Here are the highlights:
Loop 1 - up Peak 9 at Beaver Run Resort - we crossed snow twice, I fell over on some rocks, silly fun single track, wicked downhill!
Loop 2 - more hills, followed by hills. Kimo gained about an hour on me on this loop, I was pretty sure I was done until I was cheered in transition by Nicole DeBoom and Kimo's family (THANKS) along with a few Snickers...I headed out for loop 3.
Loop 3 - holy crap. This loop seemed to never end. I was pretty sure I didn't know my name, but single track kept me excited for a little while. Almond butter kept me alive for the last 15 miles, I started to find my legs then.
Sage rocked the 32 miler, taking 2nd in her age group!!
Kimo was 18th overall, 2nd in his age group but took a wrong turn that probably cost him an hour (ie he could have been 5th overall).
I ended up 47th overall, 20th in my age group, happy to get it done in under 13hours, but bummed to have missed the Breck Beer fest which ended 37 minutes earlier....well, at least I have a goal for next year!
Thanks to the Seymours, Nicole DeBoom and SAGE for keeping me going!
